The American Flag Is Kryptonite To Democrats

Monday, June 14 was Flag Day and in my drive around town I couldn’t help but notice the

remarkable correspondence between flying the flag and maintaining a Trump sign. (Yes, in my part of Florida there are still lots of Trump signs up.)

Now, not every house with a flag up had a Trump sign in the yard, but if a yard had a Trump sign the house had a flag up.

However, not one of my neighbors whom I know to be a Democrat had the flag up on Flag Day. There were signs like this one around town, but no flags.

But it turns out that it’s not just Democrats in Florida that are averse to displaying the flag, some are actually triggered by just seeing it.

A week or so ago, New York Times editorial board member Mara Gay said in an interview on MSNBC that she was “disturbed” to see “dozens of American flags” during a weekend trip to Long Island, New York.

Here’s the full text of that segment of Ms. Gay’s remarks from the New York Post transcript: “I was on Long Island this weekend visiting a really dear friend, and I was really disturbed. I saw, you know, dozens and dozens of pickup trucks with explicatives [sic] against Joe Biden on the back of them, Trump flags, and in some cases just dozens of American flags, which is also just disturbing … Essentially the message was clear: This is my country. This is not your country. I own this,” Gay said.

And here’s a link to the video so you can judge for yourself.

After Gay faced an huge backlash on social media, the New York Times stepped in to try and spin her remarks, claiming they were taken out of context.

Tweeted the Times’ PR flacks:

New York Times editorial board member Mara Gay's comments on MSNBC have been irresponsibly taken out of context. Her argument was that Trump and many of his supporters have politicized the American flag. The attacks on her today are ill-informed and grounded in bad-faith.

However, no matter how you spin it or try to repunctuate it, you can’t honestly claim Gay’s remarks mean something other than what she actually said, which was she was disturbed by seeing dozens of American flags displayed together.

Social media was as brutal to the New York Times’ defense of Mara Gay’s anti-American rant as it was of the original comments, with the Media Research Center trolling the Times by having an LED billboard truck circle the NYT headquarters building displaying a truck-sized flag.

Another Twitter user asked simply, “You know we heard the interview, right?”

“I’m not taking a position on whether her remarks were right/wrong/great/racist, but the spin you’re offering has very little to do with what she actually said,” tweeted a handle called Typos of the New York Times — also saying that the PR team’s message should not have hyphenated “bad faith.”

Mara Gay’s comments and the lame attempt by the New York Times to defend her are just the latest evidence that the American flag is kryptonite to Democrats and their Leftist allies in the media, and that no matter how hard they try to spin it the bottom line is they hate America and all its symbols.
